Course Overview
The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to contribute to safe work practices and support the implementation of WHS systems within the workplace. This nationally recognised qualification is ideal for individuals who take on WHS responsibilities in addition to their main duties or who aspire to formal WHS roles.
Participants will learn how to identify and manage workplace risks, contribute to WHS consultation and participation processes, assist with responding to incidents, and apply legislative requirements. The course also covers practical strategies for implementing and maintaining WHS procedures, systems, and policies in accordance with current health and safety laws.
This qualification is suited to supervisors, safety officers, team leaders, or workers with a strong interest in promoting safe work environments. Upon completion, graduates will have the foundation needed to pursue further studies in WHS or take on more specialised safety responsibilities within their organisation.
Module 1 – Introduction to WHS
This module provides an introduction to the legislative requirements of work health and safety in Australian workplaces. Participants will develop skills in applying legislative requirements, consultation techniques and processes and developing and implementing processes in the workplace.
Module 2 – WHS risk management
This module focuses on identifying and assessing work health and safety risks in the workplace. Participants will develop skills in implementing effective control measures, maintaining accurate WHS records, supporting consultation processes, and applying monitoring techniques to ensure ongoing compliance and improvement.
Module 3 – Incident management
This module explores how to contribute to workplace incident response in accordance with WHS legislative and organisational requirements. Participants will develop skills in researching and analysing incidents, presenting findings clearly, and producing structured documents appropriate to the audience and purpose. They will also build capability in supporting effective incident response and reporting processes in the workplace.
Module 4 – Continuous improvement
This module focuses on implementing and monitoring continuous improvement systems and processes in the workplace. Participants will develop skills in applying environmentally sustainable work practices to support long-term environmental and organisational outcomes. They will also build capability in identifying areas for improvement within a business and implementing continuous improvement processes.
