Delivery Options

We offer a range of delivery options to suit different learning preferences, support requirements and scheduling needs.

Highly Supported Delivery Formats

Our most popular programs are the highly supported options. Students complete more assessments in class, get the most out of their trainers’ experience and support and gain from peer-to-peer interactions.

Condensed Delivery with Independent Study & Assessment

These are our hybrid, self-directed learning pathways with less trainer support. Best suited to highly motivated learners who can complete study and assessments in their own time.

Course Overview

The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to contribute to safe work practices and support the implementation of WHS systems within the workplace. This nationally recognised qualification is ideal for individuals who take on WHS responsibilities in addition to their main duties or who aspire to formal WHS roles.

Participants will learn how to identify and manage workplace risks, contribute to WHS consultation and participation processes, assist with responding to incidents, and apply legislative requirements. The course also covers practical strategies for implementing and maintaining WHS procedures, systems, and policies in accordance with current health and safety laws.

This qualification is suited to supervisors, safety officers, team leaders, or workers with a strong interest in promoting safe work environments. Upon completion, graduates will have the foundation needed to pursue further studies in WHS or take on more specialised safety responsibilities within their organisation.

Module 1 – Introduction to WHS

This module provides an introduction to the legislative requirements of work health and safety in Australian workplaces. Participants will develop skills in applying legislative requirements, consultation techniques and processes and developing and implementing processes in the workplace.

Module 2 – WHS risk management

This module focuses on identifying and assessing work health and safety risks in the workplace. Participants will develop skills in implementing effective control measures, maintaining accurate WHS records, supporting consultation processes, and applying monitoring techniques to ensure ongoing compliance and improvement.

Module 3 – Incident management

This module explores how to contribute to workplace incident response in accordance with WHS legislative and organisational requirements. Participants will develop skills in researching and analysing incidents, presenting findings clearly, and producing structured documents appropriate to the audience and purpose. They will also build capability in supporting effective incident response and reporting processes in the workplace.

Module 4 – Continuous improvement

This module focuses on implementing and monitoring continuous improvement systems and processes in the workplace. Participants will develop skills in applying environmentally sustainable work practices to support long-term environmental and organisational outcomes. They will also build capability in identifying areas for improvement within a business and implementing continuous improvement processes.

WHSO Certification

Upon successful completion of our BSB41419 course, you may apply for a Work Health and Safety Officer (WHSO) certificate of authority from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ). Participants need to apply directly to WHSQ. Applicants must email a certified colour copy of evidence of their identity (driver’s licence) and a certified colour copy of their statement of attainment/qualification to whstraining@oir.qld.gov.au.

Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer

Recognition of Prior Learning

Pinnacle Safety and Training offers RPL for this training product. Should you wish to apply for RPL, please contact our RPL team at rpl@pinnaclesafety.com.au for more information.

Credit Transfer

Pinnacle Safety and Training offers Credit Transfers for this training product. A Credit Transfer is granted where the previously attained unit of competency has been achieved. After enrolment, participants are eligible to submit a Credit Transfer application.

It is important to note that while units of competency are eligible for Credit Transfer, this may not reduce the workload required. This is due to the course being delivered in a modular format, with learning and assessment activities clustered or integrated across multiple units.

Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills (LLND)

Participants are required to have at least a Year 12 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English.

This course requires a strong level of computer literacy to navigate the online learning system and complete required activities.
