Course Overview
This course provides employees with a foundational understanding of mental health, including the difference between mental health and mental illness, the impact of stigma, and the importance of resilience. Participants will learn to recognise psychosocial hazards, stress, and burnout, explore their responsibilities under WHS legislation, and gain practical strategies to support their own well-being. The course also offers an introduction to suicide awareness and encourages a proactive approach to maintaining mental health in the workplace.
Course Outline
- Mental Health and Mental Illness - Explore the differences between mental health and mental illness, including how mental health exists on a continuum. Learn about common mental health conditions, their signs and symptoms, and the importance of early recognition and support.
- Building Resilience - Understand what resilience is and why it matters in the workplace.
- Understanding Stigma - Examine how stigma and misconceptions about mental illness can create barriers to support and recovery.
- Suicide Awareness - Gain an introductory understanding of suicide risk factors, warning signs, and protective factors.
- Psychosocial Hazards, Stress and Burnout - Identify common psychosocial hazards in the workplace and how they can contribute to stress and burnout. Learn to recognise signs of work-related stress and explore strategies to manage and reduce its impact.
- Work Health and Safety Duties - Understand the legal and organisational responsibilities related to mental health under workplace health and safety legislation. This section highlights the shared duty of care between employers and workers to maintain a mentally healthy workplace.
- Supporting Your Mental Health and Well-being - Discover practical, everyday strategies to support your own mental well-being, including healthy habits, work-life balance, and when and how to access professional support.
Each Participant Must
- Have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills.
- Have the ability to read, write and listen/understand English.
- Have a sound level of computer skills to navigate through the e-Learning course.
- Use a device that meets the minimum System Requirements of Pinnacle’s e-Learning system (we officially support and recommend modern desktop or laptop computers running Google Chrome web browser). Other personal device (e.g. phones and tablets) may be compatible, but due to the variety available, we do not officially support these devices.
