Course Overview

Western Australia’s Work Health and Safety Act (2020) that came into force March 31 2022 is the first major revamp of WA’s WHS laws for over 30 years.

The legislation has been designed to improve the protection of workers by referencing modern employment agreements, introducing stronger penalties for both companies and individuals (including gross negligence/industrial manslaughter provisions), and introducing the term ‘person conducting a business or undertaking’ (PCBU).

These changes bring WA’s WHS laws in line with the rest of the country (‘harmonisation’).

As one of Australia’s largest training providers in the area of WHS and operating on both the west coast and east coast, Pinnacle Safety and Training are uniquely placed to understand the differences between the old and new legislation, and we developed this customised course specifically to help you understand how these changes affect you in your role.

Course Outline

The key areas covered by this course include:

    • Legal framework of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020
    • Duty holders and their duties
    • Reasonably practicable controls
    • Officers – due diligence
    • Penalties
    • Consultation and communication
    • Formal processes for consultation
    • Health and Safety Representatives

    Course Inclusions

Training conducted by an experienced Work Health and Safety specialist with experience across Western Australia’s OSH legislation and the newly implemented harmonised WHS legislation.

    What is a "Virtual Classroom"?

A Virtual Classroom is an online learning environment that allows for live interaction (audio and video) between a trainer and their students as they are participating in learning and assessment activities.

    Face-To-Face (In-Person) or Virtual Classroom?

A number of important factors must be considered in determining which delivery format may be right for you. These include (but aren’t limited to):

    • Computer hardware, peripherals and environment
      • Do you have a modern laptop or desktop computer?
      • Can you ensure you are in a quiet room for the duration of your sessions?
      • Do you have a headset or headphones with a microphone (such as those supplied with mobile phones) compatible with your computer?
      • Do you have a webcam?
      • Do you have a reliable and fast internet connection suitable for streaming video?

If the answer to any of the above questions is “no”, we recommend attending one of our face-to-face sessions. Students who elect to undertake their training via Virtual Classroom must agree with all terms and conditions pertaining to this mode of delivery.

    Each Trainee Must Provide

    Participants must

    • Be at least 16 years of age
    • Have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills
    • Have the ability to read and write English. If English is a second language, you will need to complete a language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) questionnaire. Contact us to discuss.

For our public (face-to-face) courses at our purpose built training facility trainees must provide:

    • Provide own transport and lunch
    • Arrive in appropriate clothing and closed-in footwear

I had to do the HSR course and Pinnacle offered a one day per week option which meant I didn’t have to take an entire week off. And Andy was a great trainer. Thanks Andy.
