Course Details

Certification

Provide First Aid is also sometimes referred to as “Senior First Aid”, “Workplace Level 2”, or “Apply First Aid”.

Participants who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

National unit of competency

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid

Course Overview

​This fully face-to-face Provide First Aid course is designed to equip participants with essential life-saving skills through hands-on, practical training. Delivered by experienced instructors, the course enables participants to recognise and respond to a wide range of first aid situations in the workplace, home, or community.

Course Outline

The key areas covered by this course include:

  • Responsibilities of the first aider
  • First aid principles and guidelines
  • First aid kits
  • Recognising and responding to an emergency situation
  • Identifying, assessing and minimising immediate hazards
  • Assessing a casualty and the situation
  • Obtaining casualty consent
  • Casualty management Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Recognition and treatment of:
    • Shock Basic wound care and bleeding management
    • Burns Fractures, sprains and strains
    • Choking and airway obstruction
    • Poisoning Heath conditions
    • Stroke and seizure
    • Asthma Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
    • Venomous bites and stings, including the pressure immobilisation technique

  • Operating first aid equipment Monitoring and responding to a casualty’s condition
  • Communicating incident details to emergency services and workplace supervisors
  • Maintaining records and confidentiality
  • Psychological impacts on self and others

Reaccreditation

​First aiders should attend training on a regular basis to refresh their first aid knowledge and skills and to confirm their competence to provide first aid. Refresher training in CPR should be carried out annually and first aid qualifications should be renewed every three years.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Pinnacle Safety and Training does not offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for this course. Due to the duration and cost of this short course, RPL assessment would have limited value to participants.

Each Trainee Must Provide

Participants must

  • Be at least 15 years of age
  • Have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills
  • Have the ability to read and write English. If English is a second language, you will need to complete a language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) questionnaire.Contact us to discuss.
  • Arrive in suitable attire, including long pants and closed-in shoes

The video presentation for explaining the P.A.S.S (pull, aim, squeeze and sweep) and the real life story video from construction people were really helpful in understanding the value of the induction.
